Radiant Floor Heat

shutterstock_25092649Looking for a little bathroom luxury? How about installing radiant heating so your bathroom floor is always cozy warm on your feet, especially in the winter. Radiant heating not only keeps your feet warm but it also warms the entire bathroom, making it very comfortable.

There are two different types of radiant heating systems that you can put under your bathroom floor, electric or hydronic. Hydronic radiant heating systems use hot water running through pipes underneath your floor. If you want to get a hydronic heating system you’ll need to purchase a specialized water heater. If you’re thinking about going the electric route there will be special panels, coils or foil that are used to disperse the heat.

Both systems are very effective and quite a luxury. The only problem with radiant heather, both electric and hydronic, is that they’re both difficult to install in existing bathrooms unless you’re doing a major renovation project. Expect to have your existing floor completely removed so that the radiant heating system can be installed. For some people they’re more convenient as they’re easy to install in new homes or new bathrooms.

If you’re not quite ready to break the bank to have radiant heating installed in your home, how about having a heated towel bar, it’s a bit less luxurious but still a wonderfully toasty treat for the bathroom.
